Interested in home improvement? Want to make your home feel bigger and better in the new year? Then let’s make some new year’s resolutions around this very desire!

The more you like your home the more satisfied you’re going to be within it, and if you really want to get some serious DIY work done in the next few months, these are the promises to make yourself right now.

As such, here are three ideas for resolutions you could make that center the work you’d like to do in your home; see if they can get you inspired to get that work completed!

Landscape the Front Garden

The front of your property is the area where your curb appeal lives. If you don’t have any right now, or you want to change the amount you’ve got, landscaping the front garden will be a great new year’s resolution.

Landscaping is something you can do easily DIY, as long as you don’t want to invest in any hardscaping methods that really require a professional to make work. Draw up a plan for how you want the front garden to look, make sure you note down the various jobs you’ll need to go through, and then get to work over the course of a few weeks or a couple of months.

Improve Home Security

If you’re a bit worried about how safe your home really is, and it’s always a background worry in the back of your head, this should be the number one resolution for next year. Improving home security will give you a lot more peace of mind, no matter how safe you know your neighborhood is, and that makes home life a lot more harmonious.

To start with, you could invest in smart home security systems to keep your home feeling private, safe, and give you a bit of monitoring power. Both doors and windows can be covered by systems like these, and they act much like your typical burglar alarm - but with a bit more insight into what’s really going on in the property.

You could then think about more manual ways to keep your home safe, such as popping some noisy gravel in the front garden, or using motion lights to deter anyone approaching.

Have a Clear Out

A good clear out is always a worthwhile goal! If the house has been overrun by clutter recently, and you’re simply out of storage space to put it all in, January should be all about making that space.

Go one by one through your rooms - it’s usually best to start upstairs and work your way down. That way you’re not clogging up every part of the house with trash bags, donation boxes, and things you’re not quite sure if you should keep or not.

Need a new year’s resolution that focuses on your love of home improvement? Use one of these or take inspo and use them to come up with the perfect one for you.
